Techniques - Casting Replicas

It takes much time and effort to produce a sculpture similar to the Green-man. I have made a mould of the Green-man, allowing me to produce replicas in cast plaster (for indoor use) and in cast lead (for outdoor display).

To make a lead replica, I would use the following technique:

1. Pouncing - Prevents pattern sticking 2. Tamping - Consolidates sand

3. Strickling Off - Produces flat base 4. Forming the Sprue - Aids pouring

5. Melting the Lead - On the forge 6. Pouring molten lead at 320°C

7. Breaking cast from the mould 8. Cleaning sand off the cast
